  • Hello! As your welcoming neighbor I would like to invite you to take some time and listen to what I can offer to you and your young children.

I am an Occupational Therapist and have Black belts in both Tae Kwon Do and Jiu-jitsu. I have studied the arts for 28 years. I have worked, taught, and trained people from pre-k through geriatrics.

As a therapist I have noted five areas our children have difficulty managing:

    1.       FLEXIBILTY - Many of the children today have poor flexibility in the hamstrings, calf, hips, and the lower and middle spine. This effects their posture and can interfere with handwriting and attention in school. It can also be the beginning of kyphosis and curvature in the spine seen in the elderly today.

    2.       HEART HEALTH - Children today are computer fanatics and Nintendo scientists. Physical exercise and cardio health are not as developed as it once was. Children’s endurance, speed, and coordination are delayed with too much sit down activities. This may invite cardiac dysfunction as an adult.

    3.        “I CAN’T ATTITUDE” - This is a giant problem of children today. Children just look at activities and assume they will be too difficult to do before attempting to do them. Giving up and/or not trying are characters that will follow your children as they age. This attitude can impact on their job advancement and even their job selection as an adult.

    4.       ANGER MANAGEMENT - Controlling one's temper seems to be more difficult than ever. Impulse control is more difficult than lashing out at one another. Children are not permitted to hit and do not have appropriate skills to deal with adversity.

    5.       OBESITY - Lack of exercise, eating fast food, and poor knowledge of balanced diets all contribute to obesity. Poor self esteem and lack of confidence are the immediate results and lead to heart disease, diabetes, and joint stress as future results.

My specialized training as an Occupational therapists enables me to better evaluate a student’s perceptual, cognitive and sensory motor level and facilitate further growth and development.

I use a goal oriented, structured environment to produce strong leaders and disciplined children who are better able to focus on academics and have fun doing it.

My martial arts Children’s program goals include but are not limited to:

    1. Reducing hyper activity through proprioceptive and kinesthetic input.
    2. Develop listening skills through multi sensory activities.
    3. Develop sequencing and planning through forms and standard movements.
    4. Develop respect for self and others through individual and team work tasks.
    5. Develop leadership and confidence as they begin to assist Instructor and help other students
    6. Incorporates home and school behavior into rank advancement so parents and instructors work on same goals.
    7. Facilitate Martial arts as a way of life not just as a hobby or “busy activity”.
    8. Develop basic life principles of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, respect and indomitable spirit.
    9. Provide individual program of exercise, stretching, and breathing control to encourage a happier, healthier life style.
